Week 4: Let's Talk! Let's take action! Experts doing masterclasses

we have shared our opinions about the innovation project with our friends from Canada. It was an amazing experience for my students to enhance their self development and to improve their digital skills while displaying their outputs to their new friends

A skype call between schools. We had the chance to have one with a Belgium partner. Though it was short, due to bad internet connection, but the students managed to talk for a while and exchange some ideas. The expererience was very interesting and highly encouraging for future work and collaboration. 

The students submitted their questions for webinars with the Experts & viewed the recordings of the webinar. They were overwhelmed to have their questions answered by world renowned experts.

This was a great week as we shared about the environment and best Practices followed in India and Ukraine.

The Innovation Project is student-centered and after speaking some American students who survived the Parkland shooting, Our students decided to share this video with you. These students are part of the #NeverAgain movement . We strive for a peaceful world (SDG16) and every student deserves a safe learning environment.

1.The washing machine that the water is returned clean to the machine and used again for the next wash.
2. A facility where the water is heated and when the baths come out hot water and do not wait for the hot water to arrive.
3. Whoever puts waste into the recycling facility gets time to play on the tablet

The last week was the favorite one!

My students only had 1 condition! I had to find a non-European school to skype with!
And with the help of Twitter I got in contact with Allison a teacher from Canada.

My students loved the experience and to talk about the diffrent subjects!

During Week 4 we connected with two schools, the International School of Beijing and the Lebanon Trail High School of Frisco, Texas

With the students from Beijing we talked about the radio they have at school since we too have a school radio and TV. We discussed the kind of activities we make and we were impressed by the kind of work they are doing.

With the students from Texas we talked about innovation and what we think we can do to somehow  improve the situation of the world

  We had previously scheduled to meet on Wednesday 16th but unfortunately the internet connection wasn't working well.  

Students still had the opportunity to ask and answer to some questions. They are now working on a video about their region and  they will send it over.

in final week we have made skype meeting with Gorda Novak class from Croatia. The 6th grade show us the products that they are made in this project and us show them our. Was an interesting meeting because the age of the students was so different. So we enjoy this meeting and we will stay in touch with this class.

My students had a wonderful time with students from Vienna, Austria and their teacher, Mrs. Gudrun Edhofer, through Skype connection.

“Water in Our Lives”

"What is now proved was once only imagined"

We are a team of 6 students interested in the problems which affect not only

the local area, but the whole population too. We are living in a country

where the biggest part of the population does have access to clean water,

even if there are some exceptions. For them and for the people living in

underdeveloped countries, we found a simple and innovative solution and we

want to implement an easy-to-do water filter made with materials which are

not so difficult to find. This system filters water which can be boiled and

used for food preparation. We all know that food and water are essential for

our living. Another big problem in the underdeveloped countries is the

inequality between people, who don’t have the same rights. By this project

we want to help these people because we think that the global situation

define us and it is important for everybody, so we want to improve it.

SDG #6 Clean Water and Sanitation

SDG #11 Sustainable Cities and Communities

SDG #12 Responsible Consumption and Production

SDG #15 Life on Land

In this project, we wanted to present our ideas about innovation as we see them.

We wanted to focus on the most important issues and to present our ideas as well as possible so you can understand what the innovation term really means.

The reason why open innovation is popular nowadays is because it empowers us to access new ideas and the social networks build around them, which was not possible before. Innovation hubs act as network nodes with open doors and work in the same way as innovation challenges. People from different disciplines and with different passions come together around a shared purpose. This is the best recipe to bring ideas to fruition. We are constantly witnessing the creation of idea networks, which allows to exchange success stories but also lessons learnt from failures. British author Charles Leadbeater in this context refers to systemic innovation and predicts that “systems innovation will become the most important focus for companies and governments, cities and entire societies.” In the last decade there has been a growing focus on product and services innovation as a source of competitive advantage.

Open innovation is a process to shift an organisation or company to a different mindset of exchanging. It is not a tool that can just be implemented over the same communication bedrock, on which a company normally works. Rather, it is a different way of communication, including people and valuing their ideas. It is believing in each participant having expertise or experience to be shared for innovation. It means changing hierarchical communication structures into horizontal ones and for the management to above all start listening and setting the right environment and incentives to let people exchange as much as possible and brainstorm in all directions. Empowering people does not make us weaker, on the contrary, it makes us richer as we benefit from what others build with that empowerment.

We have a Skype Session with the Springdales School(New Delhi). The questions for discussion were about ecological problems (SDGs 6,12,15). We discovered that there are the same ecological problems in both countries and we try to solve them at our local levels. Children from both countries understand that our environment is in danger and make efforts to save it for the future generation.

In This week the students created a tutorial about how they use their favorite tool and they will explain how to use the Water Recycler, supporting Goal 6 and giving a clear example about the goal 17  
 

This water recycler support goal 6 and confirm that the good alliances are good like the Goal 17 said, just for can´t have a better world without water.

Students, as part of their process, created one-page flyers or information sheets assoiated with their projects/ideas/SDG's. 

We connected with Kristine Halloway's classes in Canada to share Innovation Projects. We learned so much from her students who displayed a tremendous amount of creativity and innovation with their prototypes and ideas. Here are some of the highlights of the connection!

Grades 2, 3 and 4 at our school participated in the project. We learned about the Sustainable Development Goals and designed machines of various types to solve the world's problems. In week 4 all students voted on all the innovations. Our Youtube clip below features our choice. The majority of our ideas were based on life under water.  Thank you to all participants for teaching us so much about our world and other classrooms.
