Amy began her teaching career in 1997 after graduating from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. She is a constant advocate for the teaching profession and has excelled as a leader. Amy currently teaches Health & Physical Education at Hilton Head Island Middle School in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. She has been recognized by the North Carolina Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance as well as SHAPE America's Southern District as a Teacher of the Year and is an alumni of America Achieves, She served as a teaching fellow for the North Carolina Center for Health and Wellness and was a founding organizer of the North Carolina Core Advocates and is a #TeachStrong Ambassador. Her involvement with those organizations has launched her onto a national platform for teacher voice and education policy.
